Follow me around – Hamburg

Bleichen, eat glitter with me, eatglitterwith.me

I had the whole week off and since my new apartment is still not ready, I’m staying at my parents house. Which can be exhausting at times, I’m not gonna lie, but mostly, it’s a lot of fun and I get to spent loads of time with my mommy. So we decided to do a little girls-trip and go to Hamburg. We both love Hamburg. To me, Hamburg is just such a beautiful city because of the old, white houses, the harbor, great restaurants and endless shopping opportunities. Always something going on but not as big as Berlin and rather subtle and classy than hipster.

We started our day at the Mönckebergstrasse, a rather popular street with lots of shops like H&M, Zara, Mango, beauty stores and Starbucks. It’s nothing fancy or special but the buildings are pretty and the stores there are all rather big and usually have all the items from new collections. So I tried on about 20 pairs of shoes, some ruffled shirts… And finally got myself the end-of-one-chapter-start-of-the-next-chapter gift I had missed to get in Frankfurt: the new La Petite Robe Noire Intense by Guerlain. If you haven’t tried it, you absolutely should, it smells delicious! And of course some Essie nail polish 😉 Just on a side note: I like to get myself fragrances on special events in my life or when successfully completing something. Because when you smell the perfume years later, it still reminds you of that accomplishment or occasion.

Weekend get-away and an almost classic white shirt

When I saw this blouse on another blog, I HAD to have it. I’m not quite sure if I have shared my passion for white shirts with you yet. If not: they are my go-to favorite, my every day classic, they are what I reach for in the morning when my brain is still in sleep-mode and I need to put something on for work. Basically a life saver in every situation because they can be dressed up or down (did I mention versatile?! 😉 ). And there you have it: my love for the classic white shirt. I own about 15, maybe 20… educated guessing. Different shapes, always crisp white and I’m a sucker for everything white shirt with a little spin.

This shirt/tunic is great for spring as I’m wearing it in the pictures: ribbed denim, your favorite sneakers and maybe a faux fur vest or light jacket to throw over it. Done. For work, I’d probably style it with black denim (non-distressed), a cute pair of mid-heels in back, nude or red, and maybe a sharp cut blazer or a cropped wool sweater on top. The options for this piece are endless, plus the cuffs with the bow give it that little extra coolness and feminine edge as well as not being too crazy at the same time. And lets not forget the slits that give the oversize feel without your figure getting lost in a white bed linen. Looove!

To buy or not to buy? – Spending money on fashion

Gucci Swing

Gucci Swing

I thought sooo long about the headline for this post. I wanted to talk to you about which fashion items are worth the splurge, how to safe up for them and not coming off as if clothing is the number one important thing in life. Because it simply isn’t. But what it is, is a way to express ourselves, to be unique and treat ourselves with a few luxury items. Whether that’s a 40€ t-shirt (which I think is a lot of money for a t-Shirt), a 800€ Louis Vuitton bag or just something we’ve really been wanting for some time and feel like it is a special luxury piece to ourselves. A lot of us have that one bag or pair of shoes, we have had on our wish list for years. And even though it is a long process, I feel like saving up for a particular item and paying for it all by yourself makes it even more special. Or getting it as a total surprise present makes it so precious (I literally cried when I got my first Louis Vuitton Speedy!).

What’s important to me personally, is that you don’t loose track of your everyday life while saving for something you really want (no matter if it’s a fashion item, a house, a car, a vacation…). To me, eating healthy and having a beautiful home is more important than any bag or pair of shoes could ever be. These two things are such essential parts of my everyday life and I am so happy, every time I come home from 10 hours of work and open the door to my pretty apartment with nice furniture and lovely decoration. Also, eating healthy is what defines the person I am on a daily basis because I only have this one body and I don’t want to fuel my engine with bad quality food. “Du bist was du isst”: You are what you eat. So TRUE!

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Review

Nip+Fab

I haven’t done a proper beauty review and I feel its about time. My skin (talking about my face) and I have a deep love-hate-relationship ever since. It’s been oily, sometimes more and sometimes less breakouts but always enlarged pores and never ever flawless. And now, developing further in the twenties, you would think that I have at least 5 years where there are no break-outs and no wrinkles yet? Haha, yeah right. No, I still have little zits here and there but the first fine lines start to develop too… Fun, right?! I’m not complaining, I’m just setting the scene here for this review and any other beauty/ skin care reviews to come. Right now, I would call my skin oilier in the T-Zone and normal rest of the face.

Springter nail polish, wait, what?!

Now that it is mid-February, I think it is safe to say, that winter is almost over and spring will be arriving soon. Hopefully sooner than later actually. But it’s still that time of year where I feel caught in between. Fashionwise. I want to wear my new pieces for spring but it’s too cold. Pastels feel right but when I look outside, I just want to wrap up in grey and black. So obviously, our make-up, too, is in a transition state. I just don’t feel ready for a bright pink lip and turquoise nail polish… yet. Which brings me to this post: I want to share my go-to nail polishes for the time in between winter and spring (springter, I know… right?!) with you. They are (except for my newest addition, which I HAD to include) no full-on spring colors but also, they don’t compare to your winter dark-reds and blacks and dark navy colors. Here they come:

Grey Winter coziness – The Rooftop Edition

I am going to admit it: As you read in my How-to-style-an-ugly-couch post, I’ve moved 5 times in the past year, BUT it’s not all that bad because I got to see so many different apartments and currently, I am very lucky because my apartment in Frankfurt happens to be amazing. A garage, bathtub, floor heating, wooden floor panels, pretty new, elevator and to top it all of: a rooftop terrace.

One of the many reasons why I love this place so much is the incredible view from my living room and I wish I could stay longer to enjoy every evening during the summer months out there. Well, it’s not happening because I am moving soon. Again. But I thought the least I can do to appreciate the rooftop terrace, while I still have one, is to shoot an outfit up there. And let’s not forget the convenience of having a homemade snack and freshly brewed coffee in between pictures 😉 And going shopping afterwards without having to carry my camera around.

How to – Make any couch look great

Explaining, why I write this post, I’m gonna give you some quick numbers from my year 2016: 1 job (my very FIRST real job!), 2 countries, 5 apartments, 6 times moving and zero furniture. That’s pretty much been my life. My job required me to move to different places quite a lot last year and knowing that beforehand, I always picked furnished apartments. Which in Germany, is quite an unusual thing to do. So I had to deal with whatever furniture was in the apartment, trying to make it look as nice as possible and no matter how nice it was moving in, I always need something “me” in my living space.

Over the time, I’ve become quite good at making the most of whatever furniture somebody put in the apartment. Decoration obviously helps a lot but sometimes, you gotta hide things. No joke! So my current space, I really love because of the view and it is nice and new and everything. BUT for whatever reason on earth, there is a purple couch. I’m not talking about mauve or lavender, we’re talking full on purple. Here’s the pic:

Blush pink cashmere or Love at first sight

The last outfit post is quite some time ago, but the weather has been bad so lighting for outfit shoots hasn’t been the best. Sorry about that. But, anyways, my best friend and I had a girls weekend last week, did some shopping and I found this gem of a sweater, on sale, that I had to share with you. Finding it was actually the most random thing ever because I waited for my friend who had cued for the cashier and I was just wondering around, not really looking for anything. Until I saw the blush pink arm peaking out of a huge and messy sales clothing rack. I pretty much ran over and grabbed the arm, making sure it was what I hoped for (check my 2017 wish list) and instantly secured it under my arm after checking the size.

I don’t usually browse those sale racks, especially not when it is crowded as hell, because I just find it simply annoying to dig through stuff and then end up finding cute pieces but not finding them in the right size. The opportunity costs in terms of time vs potential savings just don’t add up. Haha, as if I was a responsible economist! So yes, I grabbed it, went to the fitting rooms, declared my “love at first sight”, my friend strongly agreed and I bought it. 39€, oh yeah! This sweater is going to be EVERYTHING for the time between September and May 2017, 2018 and following… The fabric is super soft, 100% cashmere, it has a knit texture to it, extra long sleeves, mock neck and it is blush pink.

How to – Take care of your clothes properly

My blog is very young, I have to admit, but I still think that by now, you have gotten a glimpse of my passion for fine leather goods, delicate silk and especially wool and cashmere sweaters. I love these precious materials because they look good but also, because they feel good. Plus the benefit of durability and how they “wear and tear”. To me, expensive clothes have to pass the test of time because I only spend a lot of money when I know, the item is going to last me a long time and I will get lots of wear out of it. But to make that happen, not only the quality is a key factor but also how you take care of your delicate fashion pieces.

I’d like to share some “wisdom” and give you tips on how I take care of my denim, cashmere sweaters and silk dresses. And to take some of your crinches away: no, not everything is being hand washed even though it says so on the label. (Despite that, you generally SHOULD obey the item’s label instructions when washing)

First trick concerns denim (pants or top): washing denim seperately has become a routine because of the color transfer but that doesn’t stop the color from still getting washed out. when I buy a new pair of jeans, I  pour warm water in the sink, about half full, and then add 2-3 cups of apple cider vinegar (every grocery store or supermarket has this and you can get any brand). Yup, that’s right. It smells horrific but letting your denim soak in for about 10 minutes and then rinsing it with cold water will help to avoid color fading. Moreover, I wash denim as seldom as possible, hanging them outside usually takes out any odor after a restaurant-visit.

How to – Keep your skin glowy during winter

The past two weeks, I have really been getting my spring vibes on. I bought tulips, took out almost all of the winter decor, did some shopping for warmer weather (I’m talking off-the-shoulder tops) and even though it is freezing outside, I’m already planning outfits for spring. In my mind, winter is almost over, which we all know: it’s not. But just because that is the case, I don’t see any reason to not have glowy skin and a healthy look to our skin. Yes, it’s super cold and yes, all the heated air inside makes us wanna put 5 layers of body butter on and never crawl out of bed again. But I have some nice and easy tricks and products to share with you which will ease the winter dullness. Promise!

Starting in the shower, it really helps not to have the water running boiling hot. It’s hard to resist, I know, but your skin will appreciate a nice, luke warm shower with this rich shower creme from Dove (don’t be fooled by the Amazon price, it should be around 2-3$ at your local Boots, Target, Wal-Mart or any drugstore)which gives you soooo much hydration for the skin. Plus, I like to use my Konjac sponge for the body (also available for your face) to really lather up the creme, massage it into the skin and give you the slightest exfoliation while massaging your skin. And moreover, through massaging, you will activate the blood circulation to help keep you warm from the inside out and your skin fresh and glowy.
