Follow me around – Antwerp
Want to know the best gift for parents? Well, maybe not in general but for my parents, travelling is the best present ever. So there you have the reason, I went to Antwerp in the first place. Easy. Second, I had never been to either, Antwerp or Brussels, but planned on doing that during my time in the current work location. And third: who needs a reason for a weekend get-away trip? It’s always a great idea. So we drove down to Belgium and checked into our hotel. After that, we took off for a little sightseeing tour around the old city centre right away. The architecture, the old streets, the dome and the harbour district are simply stunning. It feels like escaping into another decade.
But also, Antwerp is known for its fashion scene and beautiful small boutiques. So of course, after being super touristic and taking pics all over the place, we went down Nationalstraat to do some shopping. I absolutely loved the SissyBoy concept store, right next to the Anine Bing store (a bit underwhelming, sorry!), Princess on Meir 51 street is awesome, as well as all the cute little boutiques with their carefully selected labels. Of course, we had cake after all of that. Gotta have some treats while on vacay. Talking about treats, Belgium in general is famous for its chocolate and no matter if you have a huge sweet tooth or not, definetely check out one of the confisseries where they sell handmade truffles. I liked The Chocolate Line best because it is a beautiful place where you can actually get a behind-the-scenes look of how they process the chocolate. And its right by the Rubens house, in case you are interested in that, too.
For dinner, we decided to go to a belgium-french restaurant. Bourla on Graanmarkt is in the city centre right by the theatre but make sure you make a reservation a day or two ahead. We had to wait 15 minutes because we didn’t have one and enjoyed Gin Tonic and an Aperol Spritz 😉 Things can be worse. So, the staff was super friendly, food was awesome (their seafood!) and even though it’s not exactly on the most affordable site (main course between 18 and 35 euro), the food and the super pretty location were absolutely worth the money.
The next day, we strolled around for a bit and just enjoyed the day. I think Antwerp is perfect for a weekend get-away if you do want to see some sights but still enjoy yourself, go shopping and dine very delicious. I will link some more stores below, if you’re interested. Enjoy the pictures (I know, too many, I couldn’t help myself, haha). Just a quick hint: No, there will be no review of the hotel as usual because it sucked. Sorry, Hilton Antwerp to say it out loud, but you need some serious renovation around your place. I wanted to spare you the horendous pics of the place. Just believe me.
