Follow me around – 3 countries in one weekend
Moving to Aachen, which feels like the end of the world, is not that bad when it comes to weekend trips and get-aways. I needed to get out of my hotel that I had been staying at for two weeks and so we drove to Belgium that Friday. A review of the hotel will be coming soon so I don’t want to spoiler too much. It’s only a half-hour drive and Maasmechelen is such a cute and pretty place. We needed some serious relax-time Friday night, only to wake up Saturday fresh and bright and ready for the day. The Maasmechelen Village outlet shopping center is literally around the corner of the hotel we stayed at. They have a good variety of brands and as in every outlet, the possibility of some really good bargains does exist but is not insanely big. That being said, I love how beautifully the outlet and every single shop is decorated. As K said “I imagine this is what would happen if Disney World and the McArthur Glen Outlet in Roermond would have a baby” haha. I couldn’t have said it better. Customer service is awesome, everyone is so helpful and the sales personnel in the boutiques make you feel like you are shopping in a regular store. But budget-friendly.
So after 6 hours of shopping we went back to the hotel to chill for a little bit. We had planned on going out for dinner in Belgium but found a cool sushi restaurant in Maastricht, Netherlands. Since it is a small world and only a 20 minute drive, we decided to hop over to the Netherlands for dinner. How weird is that? I mean, I have lived in the States and it can take a 6-hour plane ride to get to another state! You haven’t left the country yet! Haha. Anyway, the sushi restaurant turned out as not being too cool after all so instead, we went for a stroll through downtown Maastricht. I’ve been to Maastricht many times before and it is absolutely beautiful. So cute, so pretty and great shopping opportunities. I could spend days wandering through the narrow streets and looking at all the ancient houses. Maastricht has so many bars, restaurants and cafés that you will never get hungry again. Love it.
Sunday, we decided to sleep in and then go to the park that surrounds the hotel. We took a couple of outfit-pics and enjoyed the sunshine. Afterwards, we drove back to Germany, stopping in Aachen to check on my new apartment and the progress they made… No progress at all, who would’ve guessed?! Uh well. We headed to Duesseldorf to enjoy the sunny day, stroll the streets and have some ice cream. It was absolutely beautiful, ice cream was awesome, as always, and we went over to our fave sushi place to have dinner. Simply a perfect weekend!
