Navy wool, fluffy black and white silk

view, view from my room, suite, Steigenberger, Steigenberger Düsseldorf, beautiful day, weekend, weekend get-away, duesseldorf, eatglitterwith.me, eat glitter with me

I had the perfect weekend last week: drove to Duesseldorf on Friday without getting stuck in a traffic jam, picked up my boyfriend at the airport and checked in at the Steigenberger hotel. So far, so perfect. I will post a quick review of our stay at the Steigenberger later on. Anyway, back to the outfit. I already talked about the navy wool fedora on insta which I got when shopping in Hamburg the other week. I’m still obsessed with it and it was just perfect for a slightly sunny, slightly warmer day when you just can’t be bothered to properly do your hair (and the chance of a down-pour is 40%).

Also, I love my denim with a ripped hem to give my outfit a tiny little edge even when staying at a fancy hotel where ripped denim is simply out of place between grandma’s huge gold chains and the complete LV travel set getting unloaded from a Bentley. Yes, it was THAT fancy (and kinda weird, too). I wanted to add some dimension while still sticking to classic colors, so I mixed black and navy plus layered a white silk blouse underneath the sweater, plus, adding a fur vest on top. And let’s not forget about my all-time favorite Hogan booties. They are perfect for a long walk (or shopping trip). All in all, the perfect Duesseldorf-Outfit to stroll down the Kö.ootd, fedora hat, white silk, wool sweater, hugo boss, zara denim, lookbook spring, spring is coming, eatglitterwith.me, eat glitter with me

Weekend get-away and an almost classic white shirt

When I saw this blouse on another blog, I HAD to have it. I’m not quite sure if I have shared my passion for white shirts with you yet. If not: they are my go-to favorite, my every day classic, they are what I reach for in the morning when my brain is still in sleep-mode and I need to put something on for work. Basically a life saver in every situation because they can be dressed up or down (did I mention versatile?! 😉 ). And there you have it: my love for the classic white shirt. I own about 15, maybe 20… educated guessing. Different shapes, always crisp white and I’m a sucker for everything white shirt with a little spin.

This shirt/tunic is great for spring as I’m wearing it in the pictures: ribbed denim, your favorite sneakers and maybe a faux fur vest or light jacket to throw over it. Done. For work, I’d probably style it with black denim (non-distressed), a cute pair of mid-heels in back, nude or red, and maybe a sharp cut blazer or a cropped wool sweater on top. The options for this piece are endless, plus the cuffs with the bow give it that little extra coolness and feminine edge as well as not being too crazy at the same time. And lets not forget the slits that give the oversize feel without your figure getting lost in a white bed linen. Looove!

To buy or not to buy? – Spending money on fashion

Gucci Swing

Gucci Swing

I thought sooo long about the headline for this post. I wanted to talk to you about which fashion items are worth the splurge, how to safe up for them and not coming off as if clothing is the number one important thing in life. Because it simply isn’t. But what it is, is a way to express ourselves, to be unique and treat ourselves with a few luxury items. Whether that’s a 40€ t-shirt (which I think is a lot of money for a t-Shirt), a 800€ Louis Vuitton bag or just something we’ve really been wanting for some time and feel like it is a special luxury piece to ourselves. A lot of us have that one bag or pair of shoes, we have had on our wish list for years. And even though it is a long process, I feel like saving up for a particular item and paying for it all by yourself makes it even more special. Or getting it as a total surprise present makes it so precious (I literally cried when I got my first Louis Vuitton Speedy!).

What’s important to me personally, is that you don’t loose track of your everyday life while saving for something you really want (no matter if it’s a fashion item, a house, a car, a vacation…). To me, eating healthy and having a beautiful home is more important than any bag or pair of shoes could ever be. These two things are such essential parts of my everyday life and I am so happy, every time I come home from 10 hours of work and open the door to my pretty apartment with nice furniture and lovely decoration. Also, eating healthy is what defines the person I am on a daily basis because I only have this one body and I don’t want to fuel my engine with bad quality food. “Du bist was du isst”: You are what you eat. So TRUE!

Grey Winter coziness – The Rooftop Edition

I am going to admit it: As you read in my How-to-style-an-ugly-couch post, I’ve moved 5 times in the past year, BUT it’s not all that bad because I got to see so many different apartments and currently, I am very lucky because my apartment in Frankfurt happens to be amazing. A garage, bathtub, floor heating, wooden floor panels, pretty new, elevator and to top it all of: a rooftop terrace.

One of the many reasons why I love this place so much is the incredible view from my living room and I wish I could stay longer to enjoy every evening during the summer months out there. Well, it’s not happening because I am moving soon. Again. But I thought the least I can do to appreciate the rooftop terrace, while I still have one, is to shoot an outfit up there. And let’s not forget the convenience of having a homemade snack and freshly brewed coffee in between pictures 😉 And going shopping afterwards without having to carry my camera around.

Blush pink cashmere or Love at first sight

The last outfit post is quite some time ago, but the weather has been bad so lighting for outfit shoots hasn’t been the best. Sorry about that. But, anyways, my best friend and I had a girls weekend last week, did some shopping and I found this gem of a sweater, on sale, that I had to share with you. Finding it was actually the most random thing ever because I waited for my friend who had cued for the cashier and I was just wondering around, not really looking for anything. Until I saw the blush pink arm peaking out of a huge and messy sales clothing rack. I pretty much ran over and grabbed the arm, making sure it was what I hoped for (check my 2017 wish list) and instantly secured it under my arm after checking the size.

I don’t usually browse those sale racks, especially not when it is crowded as hell, because I just find it simply annoying to dig through stuff and then end up finding cute pieces but not finding them in the right size. The opportunity costs in terms of time vs potential savings just don’t add up. Haha, as if I was a responsible economist! So yes, I grabbed it, went to the fitting rooms, declared my “love at first sight”, my friend strongly agreed and I bought it. 39€, oh yeah! This sweater is going to be EVERYTHING for the time between September and May 2017, 2018 and following… The fabric is super soft, 100% cashmere, it has a knit texture to it, extra long sleeves, mock neck and it is blush pink.

How to – Take care of your clothes properly

My blog is very young, I have to admit, but I still think that by now, you have gotten a glimpse of my passion for fine leather goods, delicate silk and especially wool and cashmere sweaters. I love these precious materials because they look good but also, because they feel good. Plus the benefit of durability and how they “wear and tear”. To me, expensive clothes have to pass the test of time because I only spend a lot of money when I know, the item is going to last me a long time and I will get lots of wear out of it. But to make that happen, not only the quality is a key factor but also how you take care of your delicate fashion pieces.

I’d like to share some “wisdom” and give you tips on how I take care of my denim, cashmere sweaters and silk dresses. And to take some of your crinches away: no, not everything is being hand washed even though it says so on the label. (Despite that, you generally SHOULD obey the item’s label instructions when washing)

First trick concerns denim (pants or top): washing denim seperately has become a routine because of the color transfer but that doesn’t stop the color from still getting washed out. when I buy a new pair of jeans, I  pour warm water in the sink, about half full, and then add 2-3 cups of apple cider vinegar (every grocery store or supermarket has this and you can get any brand). Yup, that’s right. It smells horrific but letting your denim soak in for about 10 minutes and then rinsing it with cold water will help to avoid color fading. Moreover, I wash denim as seldom as possible, hanging them outside usually takes out any odor after a restaurant-visit.

DIY – distressed hem denim on my ZARA jeans

As previously promised: here’s my quick and easy DIY on how I gave my regular ZARA denim a bit of an upgrade on the distressed side. First things first, I’m a huge fan of distressed denim. But it usually isn’t work appropriate, unless you work in the fashion industry… which I don’t. So casual friday is my personal highlight because it always gives me the chance to kinda dress up (which means dressing down in my case!).

I really wanted a pair of jeans which were distressed at the hem (TGIF appropriate) but other than that without any holes: it’s an impossible mission. No kidding. So when I saw those ZARA jeans last week, on sale (17€/20$), my size, ankle gracer for medium-tall people (which means a less-than-ankle-gracer-lenght for me), they were the perfect fit. Because after taking out the hem, I figured, they’d be the perfect lenght for me.

Here’s how I did it:

What’s on my fashion wish-list 2017

Hi guys and welcome back! I feel like the first weeks of the new year are always spent in a sort of bubble. 2016 is clearly over, but has 2017 REALLY begun? Getting back to work, getting back on track, getting back to the gym and my healthy eating routine… it’s more of a “back to” than “I’m in”. But that’s allright, it is a time to make new plans and set new goals.

My 2017 business-goal is to kick some ass in my job. I’ll be moving in March so I have some apartment/decor goals as well (which of course, I’ll share once they are fully set). And of course a couple of fashion goals, but let’s be honest: it’s more of a wish list 🙂 So I’ll be sharing some items that are on my list this year, some are a definited purchases, some are investment pieces which I know are awesome but sooo expensive that I need to start saving…

Anyways. Here it comes! My first item is a either-or because I have not seen those two in real life, just in photos and I haven’t decided which one would be better. Both are insanely pricey, so that doesn’t help… Either the Chanel Mini Square (couldn’t find it on the Chanel page but I know it does exist) or the Chanel Wallet on Chain, in black lambskin or caviar and silver hardware. They are an absolute classic and I adore them so much, no doubt I would get great wear out of them, but the price-point is hefty and puts me off every time I seriously consider them…

Gold sneakers and a fedora – a saturday classic

So this is the first outfit-post! Yeah. I’m probably more excited than you are but this is a big thing for me.

eatglitterwith.me, hat, red cup, fashion

It’s been pretty chilly these past days in Frankfurt but weather conditions shouldn’t stop anyone from being stylish. I feel like winter is always a good time to do some layering, whether it is visible or not but just so convenient when you’re store-hopping between -2C° outside and 23C° inside. Also, I pretty much put this outfit together from all-year-round favorites and not only your typical winter gear. To me, it’s important to buy a few key pieces that are my staples for every season an its specifics but also, I’m constantly on the lookout for transitional pieces which are wearable all year long and throughout many years. They are (mostly always) worth the investment. Talking about cost-per-wear will be a separate post though…

So, the fedora hat I wore is a really sentimental piece to me because I bought it in Savannah on my birthday road-trip from Atlanta, GA, to Disney, Orlando.  It’s from Club Monaco and just reminds me of the wonderful time I had during the three months I stayed in the US. Travel blog about that trip is in the making, don’t you worry!
